TRTC Successfully Meets the Challenge of New Year's Eve Transport Service

Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) successfully met the challenge posed by the large volume of passengers on New Year's Eve. The metro system transported 2.50 million passengers between 6am on December 31, 2018 and 6am on January 1, 2019. To achieve the goal of getting every passenger to the 2019 New Year's Eve Countdown Party and bringing them home safely, TRTC implemented a three-tier system of crowd management. TRTC is grateful to all passengers for their patience and cooperation on this occasion.

To cope with the humongous turnout at the 2019 New Year's Eve Countdown Party sponsored by Taipei City Government, TRTC brought in an additional 2,500 staff members to its manpower that night – including Metro Police and volunteers dressed in yellow or orange coats. Their duties were to help with directing crowds, patrolling platforms, selling tickets, keeping order, as well as monitoring escalators, ticket gates, and entry and exit points.

After the end of the party, nearby metro stations reported large number of people at the gates, as partygoers began heading home. Most people were able to catch their trains and make it home within 2 hours. TRTC is proud to report that every passenger went home safely and happily, allowing the agency to successfully fulfill its New Year Eve's transport challenge.
