To provide passengers with a safer and more comfortable waiting environment, we began to install Platform Screen Doors (PSD) in 1995, and expect all stations to be fitted with PSDs by 2018.

59 stations out of the 117 stations across the entire Taipei Metro system were built with integrated PSD, and the PSD at the remaining 58 stations were undertaken by the TRTC. In total, 101 stations are now equipped with PSD, i.e. 86.32% of all stations. Installation works and tests at the remaining 16 stations, including Jingmei, Xindian, Yongning, Guandu, Xiaonanmen, Zhuwei, Mingde, Wanlong, Hongshulin, Qiyan, Qilian, Xinbeitou, Fuxinggang, Zhongyi, Tucheng and Xiaobitan stations, are currently being performed during non-service hours. Completion is expected for 2018, at which point all Taipei Metro stations will be fitted with PSD.

MRT stations which do not yet have PSD installed are already equipped with a Track Intrusion Detection System. This system was developed in-house by TRTC and is the first of its kind in the world. By using infrared detectors and Laser Measurement Sensors, it is able to detect movement on the tracks along the platforms, around platform end doors, at the gap between the trains and platform end doors, and beyond the clearing line on the platform. It alerts the control center when a passenger moves beyond the designated area on the platform, upon which the surveillance system will lock onto the area and station staff will attend to the scene immediately. In the track area, a traffic light at 150m from the platform end door will turn red, warning drivers to slow down and be alert of the situation.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 %" border=0 class="blank" summary="*">

Qizhang

Haishan

Houshanpi

Beitou

Taipower Building

Kunyang

Drilling.
  <TD %" align=center valign="top">
Positioning and measuring.
  <TD %" align=center valign="top">
Installation of platform doors.

The Track Intrusion Detection System for a surface level station.

Detecting areas of the Track Intrusion Detection System.

Speed dome camera

Improved Lighting

To make the Taipei Metro stations more beautiful, enhance the city’s nighttime scenery, and to provide a safer, brighter area for citizens, passengers, and residents living in the vicinity of Metro stations, nighttime lighting systems were installed in seven stations in 2007, including the Jiantan, Shilin, Zhongxiao Xinsheng, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Gongguan, Daan, and Zhongxiao Fuxing stations. Lighted entrance and exit signs in stations were replaced with more modern-looking solar-powered LED lights to make the exits easier to find, save energy, and help the environment. Because the Daan Station is located on an elevated portion of the Metro situated in the city, lights were installed to shine on its columns, beams, and outer walls to enhance the station’s beauty and create a distinctive nighttime view.

Furthermore, to make Metro stations safer for citizens, passengers, and area residents, lights were added to entrances and exits and along paths leading to the Metro stations mentioned above, and also at nearby transfer bus stops. Lights were also installed near the double-decker bicycle racks and motorcycle parking areas located outside of the Jiantan and Gongguan stations. Lights in the Taipei Metro linear parks were modified to use brighter, energy-conserving lighting equipment, spot lights, and scenic lights, to both enhance the beauty of these areas and make them safer at night.

Solar-powered LED signs lights

Daan Station night view 1

Daan Station night view 2

Daan Station night view 3

Transfer bus stops nearby Jiantan Station

Double-decker bicycle racks nearby Gongguan Station
Before the installation of LED street lights

Double-decker bicycle racks nearby Gongguan Station
After the installation of LED street lights
