The Taipei Metro has been committed to the safety and security of its passengers from day one. To provide passengers with a safer and more comfortable waiting environment, we began to install Platform Screen Doors (PSD) in 1995, and expect all stations to be fitted with PSDs by 2018.
59 stations out of the 117 stations across the entire Taipei Metro system were built with integrated PSD, and the PSD at the remaining 58 stations were undertaken by the TRTC. In total, 101 stations are now equipped with PSD, i.e. 86.32% of all stations. Installation works and tests at the remaining 16 stations, including Jingmei, Xindian, Yongning, Guandu, Xiaonanmen, Zhuwei, Mingde, Wanlong, Hongshulin, Qiyan, Qilian, Xinbeitou, Fuxinggang, Zhongyi, Tucheng and Xiaobitan stations, are currently being performed during non-service hours. Completion is expected for 2018, at which point all Taipei Metro stations will be fitted with PSD.
MRT stations which do not yet have PSD installed are already equipped with a Track Intrusion Detection System. This system was developed in-house by TRTC and is the first of its kind in the world. By using infrared detectors and Laser Measurement Sensors, it is able to detect movement on the tracks along the platforms, around platform end doors, at the gap between the trains and platform end doors, and beyond the clearing line on the platform. It alerts the control center when a passenger moves beyond the designated area on the platform, upon which the surveillance system will lock onto the area and station staff will attend to the scene immediately. In the track area, a traffic light at 150m from the platform end door will turn red, warning drivers to slow down and be alert of the situation.
